I have a blogging buddy who has been an endless supply of entertainment this past holiday season. His birthday is coming up, but he’s also hit a rough patch. As we all know, this can make for a double whammy in the melancholy department. Since he’s looking for a way to chase the blues away, I thought maybe we could help!
If this were all about me, this would be a music based post. But, I’m considering the person I want to help cheer up. He’s a screen writer. So here’s what I’m thinking. I’m going to go with my Top 5 Guilty Pleasure movies… They can be musicals, they can be comedies, they can be whatever you want… And, of course…I’ll kick it off.
Just remember…this is to try to cheer someone up, so don’t judge…LOL!
There were so many different clips I could’ve chosen…many of them with music. But I picked this one because it shows the pure cheese that is Crybaby. Of course, the fact that Depp has a resemblance to Elvis in this may actually have something to do with my crush as well!
Like I said…I had a thing for Elvis…so I could’ve put pretty much any of his movies here…but chose this one. (Mostly because the song cracks me up.)
There is something just so cheesy and fun about this movie! Oddly enough, the first time I saw Maxwell Caulfied in this I’d already seen him in The Colby’s…so my first reaction was “OMG! It’s Miles Colby!”
It’s strange…I should really not be a fan of this movie considering The Cowboys are my team…but for the sake of this movie? I’m a Giants fan all the way…(And a huge Becky fan… She’s the couch cushion.
)
I LOVED Brandon Lee. Wish he were still around. He is what finally convinced me to go out with hubby. He asked me to go see Rapid Fire…LOL! For some reason, though, Showdown In Little Tokyo is my all time favorite. He and Dolph Lundgren just cracked me up.
So what about you guys? What are your guilty pleasure movies? Have you checked out Susie Landau’s “Use Me, Abuse Me Party“? If not, you’re missing out on some great opportunities to pimp yourself and to get to know some wonderful new bloggers. I strongly recommend you stop by and check it out!
Thank you for the post and your attempt to cheer me up. It’s definitely working. I even managed to just write a new post, so I must be slowly coming out of my funk…
Awesome! Hopefully my Guilty Pleasures made you laugh just a little… (Sadly Kuffs with Christian Slater almost made it…but I love these 5 just a bit more).
I saw Kuffs. Christian Slater used to be my boy…
Thanks for going through and reading all my posts. I don’t know if anyone else has ever done that…
He was mine, too. Did you see the tv show he did a year or two back on missing people? Loved it! He’s so underrated. My fave is still Pump Up The Volume, but I have seen him as far back as In The Name Of The Rose. As for your blog…I’m still on Nov 20th but I’m loving it!
I LOVE Pump Up the Volume. Happy Harry Hard On! Did you see that he also starred in the lowest grossing movie of 2012. It made something like $265. Yikes!
Really? I’ll have to look it up.
Yeah, I read a couple of articles on it earlier in the week. Hadn’t even heard of the flick…
That’s a real bummer. I like him…and the “Eat Me, Beat Me” Lady…Samantha Mathis, another underrated actor.
We used to watch Pump Up the Volume over and over at NYU. Great soundtrack, too…
Oh, I know! I own it. I actually have a soundtrack fetish…
Hahaha! Love this film mashup of greatness. I would say The Holiday if I can drink wine and ignore Cameron Diaz’s lack of acting ability!
Hey! Thanks for the shout out! The party is still rocking! The post will always be up so ragers can stop by anytime and click on a few links!
I love that movie! Oddly, I can’t stand Love, Actually, but enjoy that one…of course, that MAY be all Jude Law.
As for your party? I keep checking in every few hours. Tons of fun! I may have to steal your idea sometime.
It is a great way for my readers to meet each other. Thanks for sending some of yours my way!
Funny you should mention Love Actually because that is the other one we watch along with The Holiday on our girl’s weekend every year!
LOL! Well, they do have the whole Brit thing going on… I’m more a White Christmas girl.
Love that movie!
Oh lord. I don’t know where to start for my guilty pleasures. I will say I do like what you posted except one. Cry baby. I saw that in theaters with my ex cause she wanted to see it. God I thought it was some form of new torture LOL.
Poor you. Yeah, Crybaby was definitely geared more towards the woman’s cheese-o-meter. Be glad I didn’t post any of the singing. King Crybaby and Please Mr Jailer were in contention along with French Kissing.
LOL, yes thank you for sparing me. It’s all good. I understand why it was posted.
LOL! I appreciate that. My friend actually had a hilarious zombie post that I sent you on Twitter.
Oh yea I saw that. I haven’t had the opportunity to go on twitter and read it yet. But I have the email saved as a reminder.
Cool. You will be amused.
Unfaithful… and Body Heat
I actually don’t think I’ve seen either movie!
You MUST see them!!! I saw Body Heat when I was really young.. (way too young to have seen it..lol) and it ummm really stayed with me..lol
I saw Porkys when I was too young to see it…LOL! Certain scenes stayed with me, too!
LOL.. yes.. yes they do
I think that movie & The Sweetest Thing are the only two movies I remember seeing glory holes prominently featured.
yeah.. I think so.. The Sweetest Thing glory hole scene had me cracking up
Me, too. My favorite, two scenes, though, were when they did the “Penis” song in the Chinese restaurant & the “I Don’t Wanna Miss A Thing” scene with Selma Blair & the Prince Albert.
yeah… “Your penis is soooo big… your penis is to big to fit in here”…lol
It ‘s better than “it’s oozing and it’s green!” LOL!
lol
Ours is “From Dusk Til Dawn” with George Clooney and Harvey Keitel and lots of vampires. It’s gruesome (screenplay by Quentin Tarantino) and so bad it’s funny.
I LOVE that movie. It is one of my favorite scary movies! Cheech is hilarious in it & Tarantino is pure creepy! Clooney’s tattoo is hot, though.
I loved “Little Giants!” I had such a crush on Junior Floyd (Devon Sawa) and yes, I still remember the character’s name. Didn’t even need to look it up.
Plus, it was just so cool to see Al Bundy not being Al Bundy and Rick Moranis not shrinking or blowing up his kids. A delight!
Absolutely! Devon Sawa was a total cutie in that and Casper. I loved when Junior told Becky “But you’re the Icebox! You could beat up my dad!”
OMG, Kitt! I’ve never seen or heard of that movie Crybaby before. What the hell is it about? Seems pretty corny but awesome! Man, Johnny Depp is one good looking bad boy in it
LOL! Marie, it is the ultimate in cheese. Not even kidding about that. You will laugh your ass off, honestly. It’s about “squares, drapes and scrapes”. I wouldn’t recommend wasting much money on it, but you should watch it at least once.
I’m in shock. “I have been a good girl and one night of happiness is all I ask!”??? I had no idea that it was possible for a movie to have Depp in it and still be this awful. Wow.
I’m not sure about guilty, but it’s definitely a pleasure for me to watch all the old Disney movies and I’ll even sing along to all the songs.
Oh, and then there’s Grease and Dirty Dancing, of course.
Oh, I love Disney movies, too… And Grease & Dirty Dancing are awesome!
Yep, they are! You can sing and dance along, which is always fun.
Exactly!
Grease and Dirty Dancing. And there’s an old movie with Huckleberry Finn and Tom Sawyer as adults . . Mitch Andersen and Rapheal Sbarge star in it but I can’t remember the name.
Oh, my gosh! I think I remember that movie! Back To Hannibal: The Return Of Tom Sawyer…I had to IMDB it, but it is the one I remember.
I love Cry Baby. I remember watching this a kid when I was probably too young to be watching it.
LOL! It is the ultimate in cheesy, right? I loved the movie, too. It made me laugh.
Guilty pleasure: the Big Lebowski. With friends. Can’t watch the B.L. alone because then it’s just weird. Give me a zip line, robe, slippers and madras shorts! Here’s to your buddy. Hope his rough patch smoothes out soon.
I think I’ve only seen that movie once…but then, I also saw it alone. I think I’ll need to try watching it again, just the way you recommended.
works for me; I’m giggling and singing along
Great!
