He’s A Slice Of Something Amazing!

Since losing my retail job back in July I’ve been writing. As many of you know, there is no such thing as instant financial gratification in writing. (I chuckled to myself even as I wrote that sentence.) Writing-doing it right, takes time. Even once you’re finished with your story, it needs editing, polishing…yadda, yadda, yadda. I am okay with that. Hubby and I talked. We’ve decided to use this time to allow me to pursue my dreams! He believes in me…believes I’m talented enough to make a go of this.

It’s a bit of a scary move for someone who’s been working in traditional jobs since she was 16 and has had two careers that lasted nearly 10 years each. I never considered it a viable dream before. Had it not been for the prodding of some very good friends, I might have gone back to find some other job that took over my life and stifled my passions. Fortunately, my support system is pretty amazing…so I’m following my dream.

Then came today…February 1st. Why is this such a big deal? Because that means Valentine’s Day is in 13 days. Many of you have known me for a while now and know 2 things:  I like to celebrate holidays/milestones and last year was rough. Last year around Valentine’s Day I was doing at least 4 double shifts a week and 6 day work weeks. Somehow I managed to get Valentine’s Day off, so I made him his favorite Filipino foods. By late that night he was headed to the emergency room…and the following day found him having an emergency appendectomy.

This year will be different. As I racked my brain wondering what sort of awesome (not overly expensive…hey, I’ve been unemployed for a while now) gift I could get him, one of my awesome Twitter buddies, @Lisas_alter_ego posted something amazing! It was this picture!

Giordanos Pizza Heart

Hubby and I are from Chicago. This means that we can be a bit on the pizza snob side. It also means that there haven’t been any pizza places that have measured up to what we had back home. His absolute favorite thing is Giordano’s Stuffed Pizza. For Valentine’s Day they’re doing the pies shaped like hearts! And they FedEx them on dry ice! How cool is that? Sooo, guess what I’m gonna do for him? Absolutely! I’m gonna order one to be delivered for him.

I have an awesome man who loves and supports me. He believes in me and is willing to do whatever it takes so that I can pursue my dreams. To me that makes him pretty much the coolest person on earth. The pizza may not be much, but it’s a slice of home…and it’s one of the things he loves. Once I’m more steady on my feet again, I’ll be able to give him something more to show him how valued he is in my life…but for now, I’ll have to settle for a slice of cheesy goodness.

    I love all things holiday. Any holiday. I always make a cheese fondue and over stuff myself while watching some sort of lovey movie (might even be the Lifetime channel this year)…Teddy is there to help, too! And CONGRATS on chasing your dreams. It often is scary but the outcome is usually worth it. CHEERS!

      As for what I’m writing about? One day, I’m sure I will…once I’ve earned the right. You ladies who have your stuff out there and published have earned the right to show it off. 🙂

    Love your tribute to your husband … very hearty and real. I’m sure he will love his pizza. Your post is delightful.
    I have a big romantic heart – but I don’t like Valentine’s Day. It’s all for commercial gains. I think it’s better that we give a little present when we least expect it .. and some flowers without any real reason.

    What a couple! Sounds like your guy is so wonderful and supportive. And I love your inexpensive gift idea! I’m a fan of celebrating holidays to the fullest too and this is my first Valentine’s day with J so I wanted it to be special. But since we’re in the midst of saving for a home we agreed to not go over the top and instead enjoy a romantic evening in. I’m making something tasty with sea scallops for dinner, have a bottle of champagne at the ready, and maybe we will rent an On-Demand action movie just for fun! 🙂 Wishing you and your mister a very Happy Valentine’s Day!

    Hi Kit, you are a lucky girl (like me ;-)) and I wish you a year full of time to do what you need to do! If you want it, you can have it! And for me Valentine’s day is not about expensive gifts, it’s about showing my love for my man and he for me. It’s the thought that counts, not the amount of money we spend. If we were you, then this pizza would be the best gift ever! Have fun!

    Oh pizza – how I miss you so – though I do indulge in a slice when Mr. S tucks into his full one! I wish you luck with your dreams and your goal, I could think of nothing better then to forgo the daily grind and write full time..sharing your love..sharing a pizza… what better way to create happiness 🙂

    The pizza idea is super-cool because it’s really personal and fun as well! Much better than a lot of more expensive things. I just hope he’s not reading this! 🙂

    Giordano’s! Oh my gosh, happy memories! Several years ago when I took one of my youngest on his college visit in Chicago that was the first place we ate. Then we walked all over downtown, figured we must have covered six miles. Took the El. Ate Chicago popcorn (what I’d give for some of that cheese popcorn right now…) Walked all over Navy Pier. He ended up going to school there and it’s my favorite place to visit!
    And – Happy Valentine’s Day! Just think, you’re guaranteed your guy won’t have appendicitis this year!

    What a lovely post, Kitt! Hubby and I always do dinner out on Valentine’s Day and he usually sends me roses 🙂 I remember one Valentine’s Day a few years ago when we had a bad snowstorm the night before. He and I spent the day snow shoveling (with him coughing and feeling tired the whole time). I was worried, but he said it was just a cold and we still went out for dinner. The next day he was much worse. Turns out he had pneumonia. Definitely not a Valentine’s Day we want to repeat (like your husband’s emergency surgery!).

    BTW, I visited Chiciago a number of years ago during a business trip. I had to try the deep dish pizza–so different than what I’m used to in the east!
