Irving Berlin and the Holidays

Sometimes I wonder where our holidays would be if it weren’t for the creations of guys like Irving Berlin. I mean, think about it… No Holiday Inn. No White Christmas. Those movies…and the songs that came from them became classic staples to the American culture.

So when I came across this gorgeous rendition of one of Berlin’s classics (and one of my all time favorite Christmas songs) featuring two of my favorite voices, of course I had to include it in my holiday celebration music! I love that technology now gives us these kinds of opportunities.

While I’m at it, I thought I’d also include a clip from my favorite Christmas movie ever… White Christmas. Considering the weather for most of you these days, I figured it was appropriate. (I’m in Florida and only enjoy snow on Christmas Eve/Morning.)

Do you have a favorite Christmas movie? Is there something in particular that sets it apart from the other holiday movies for you? A song? A character? You know me….I’m always curious.

How cool is that!!! One of my favourites – if not THE favourite. Ours won’t be with snow – more like flips flops and shorts! Then again we have had hail before~ so anything’s possible. Can’t think a Movie – but listening to Bing takes me back to when I was a younger pup – so thank you for sharing 🙂 x

I always love to watch It’s A Wonderful Life and A Christmas Story. The Girl Who Hangs My Stocking took me to see the stage version of A Christmas Story, which was quite awesome…

Hands down for me is the original The Bishop’s Wife with Cary Grant and David Niven. So magical and fun and filled with love. Great stuff. I’m not a fan of Buble but I liked der Bingle there. Have a nice holiday.

Fabulous song! I’ve watched a couple of turkeys (‘Surviving Christmas’ with Ben Affleck – can’t begin to tell you how lame this film was!) so far this Christmas so really need some top suggestions for films!

Oooo! I LOVE the rendition with Michael Buble & Bing. That classic sound is so special. I get the same feeling when I listen to Harry Connick Jr. My daughter has had the ABC Family channel on all weekend that is playing Christmas movie after Christmas movie and I’ve been watching some with her. Last night was of course, Home Alone 1 – which you can never get sick of. I look for humor in my movies so Chevy Chase’s movies were always part of my favorite list.

The cobblestone streets with those iron lamps and big houses in Home Alone were filmed in my home town! 🙂 I like sentimentality in my Christmas movies, which may explain my choices…though Elf is pretty high on my list & it’s chock full of humor. 🙂

The classics like these are still great. One I still enjoy is Babes in Toyland / March of the Wooden Soldiers with Laurel & Hardy. It’s always shown this time of year on some channel.
