G- Goodbye Glee

I was one of those people hooked on Glee from day one. Between my love of music and my sense of playfulness, this show got to me.

Who could resist the irreverent Sue Sylvester and her love/hate relationship with Will Schuster? Or watching Rachel and Finn fall in love? Or better yet, Kurt and Blaine?

In honor of the end of Glee, I’d like to share a few of my favorite songs over the years….

Sometimes they make you nostalgic and dance with a few guilty pleasures…

Then there are moments you have one of those moments when you’re looking back at the mistakes you’ve made and trying to find your way back to right….

Or the times when they’d break your heart with their honesty and grief bleeding through the lyrics.

Goodbye Glee! I’ll keep you in my heart.

Mix, Match, and Mash-Up!

This world has become a place that appreciates creative mergers. Don’t believe me? Look at the popularity of Cronuts! In the book world, think of the newer, very popular subgenre that is now falling under the Romance umbrella– Erotic Romance. Elements of romance and erotica blended together with a storyline.

And then there are music mash ups….where you take two songs and combine them into one awesome new one. It’s been a while since I’ve done a music post, but I’m in the mood to change that by sharing some of my favorite songs with you. At the end I expect you guys to share your favorite things (or songs) to blend or mash up together….

For example. I’ve always thought Rihanna’s “Umbrella” was an annoying song, but when Glee combined it with the classic, “Singin’ in the Rain,” I changed my mind. It was repurposed with a sense of fun.

And then there’s mixing old and new school R&B like the Supreme’s “Stop! In the Name of Love” with En Vogue’s “Free Your Mind.”:

And then it expanded into movies/musicals! One of my newest all time favorites is Pitch Perfect because of this combination of Bruno Mars’ “Just the Way You Are” and Nelly’s “Just a Dream.”

Of course in their final competition they had the ultimate mash up (and so many songs I can’t list them all). Boy, I can’t wait for the sequel. It comes out next year!

The really cool thing is it’s not limited to tv and movies! Creativity is exploding everywhere….. New talents being discovered. In fact, this is my favorite newest discovery! It’s a mash up of “Call Me, Maybe” and “Payphone.” Who’d have thought Carly Jepson and Maroon 5 would go so well together?

Like I said…. Now it’s your turn to share your favorite combos with me! I don’t care if it’s food, books, music….or anything else that comes to mind. I just love hearing from you guys!

Friendship and the Generosity of @NBlackthorne

As many of you know, things have gotten very hectic for me in my “other” non-writing life. This means I’ve been having to manage my days and haven’t had as much time to spend writing and on my blog. Fortunately, this is a temporary thing as I help a close friend get his business off the ground.

In the meantime, I’ve had some really great friends like fellow author Natasha Blackthorne who have filled in and shared a bit about themselves with you guys. (Yes, that means there are more friends I’ll be sharing with you. You’ll love them. I promise!)

Well, Natasha has been so generous that she also invited me to share a bit of myself and my writing on her blog, so I did. I’d really appreciate it if you guys could take a moment to stop by, comment, and/or follow her. She’s a wonderful woman. Truly!

BTW, the offer is open for any of my friends… Just email me so we can designate a time and some parameters to your visit.

PS. Has spring arrived for those of you who live up north yet?

Checking In to Say I Haven’t Checked Out!

So things in my universe have suddenly gotten very “whirlwind-y,” but that doesn’t mean I’m gone or have disappeared. I promise. In fact, tomorrow will be my first day off in about 14 days and I’m looking forward to it with bated breath.

I also have some friends lined up to come by and visit with us all…and I can’t wait to share them with you, but in the meantime, here are some things that have brightened my smile and helped give me the energy I need to persist.

Yeah, so maybe I have a bit of a girl crush on Naya Rivera… Who could blame me? Santana’s effin’ hot! Of course, I’m equally in love with Rachel Barry’s voice, but who isn’t? Seriously, Lea Michele is uber talented, and despite her shitty ass year of losing her fiancé, Cory Monteith, she’s plowed on….continuing with Glee AND releasing a new album!

Then there’s this one… one of my all time fave musicians, Billy Joel, playing with Jimmy Fallon. Tell me this app is not badass! See, this is why I love working “in my real life” in the wireless technology biz. So many cool things.

This song reminds me of my sister and me when we’d sing together in our youth… And yes, these two young ladies from the tv show Nashville are sisters in real life, too. Oddly enough, it was my younger sister who tended to do the harmony when we sang, too. 🙂 And then there’s the lyrics… How uplifting to remind us that it’s the simple things that count!

Finally, although Christian Kane is (and always will be) my all time favorite Leverage member (and an awesome musician in his own right), there’s something absolutely enchanting about listening to Hardison (aka Aldis Hodge) play this particular Scheherazade solo. Yeah…with the hectic chaos that has been the last two weeks, I’ve found it soothing.

What about you guys? Anything new, fun, or just beautiful that you’ve discovered lately that you’d like to share? What’s new in your lives? I’ve missed you guys!

Christmas Eve With You

Hubby found a new job and has been away at training the last few days. He will be coming home this evening, so I found this song from Glee to be pretty perfect for today.

Hope your holidays are bright and joyful…filled with love, friendship and family. May you have an abundance of the things that feed your soul and encourage your growth and happiness.

I’m so grateful to have such a wonderful group of online friends and family! Thanks for your constant support.

Thankful For YOU!

I'm thankful for all of you and your wonderful support!

I’m thankful for all of you and your wonderful support!

Hey all! I know it’s been a little while since I’ve been on. Life has taken some strange twists this year. Last week hubby lost his job. It’s okay, though. Don’t worry about us. We’re feeling optimistic and have some opportunities on the horizon for both of us. In fact, keep your fingers crossed as there are 3 different companies who have expressed an interest in him. I would really love for him to have options.

As for me? Well, keep your eyes peeled. My first book will be launching shortly, and I’ve been approached with an awesome job opportunity that falls in my wheel house of teaching, training, development and sales! I admit it. There’s something that feeds my inner competitor when I get to wheel and deal. 🙂

I just wanted to take a few minutes to jump on here today and say… Family isn’t always the people tied to you through biology and marriage, but also the people with whom you choose to open your lives and hearts. I’m grateful for the family (biology and otherwise) that I know on sight…and the wonderful family I’ve found here. You guys have embraced me and supported me and cheered me on. Thanks for that!

Ya’ll know my passion for music… There’s no way I could leave it out of today.

And for my more playful friends? Here’s a little Thanksgiving fun!

What are you thankful for? What’s your favorite food on Thanksgiving?

Halloween Harmonies

Yes, I’ve been away for a little while. I took on a new temporary job that has kept me hopping. This last week has been all about me getting used to the travel and the rhythms of this new adventure.

In the meantime, Halloween has been on my brain. This holiday is full of frightful fun! We’ve been known to go all out with our yard décor….

Like this guy...

Like this guy…

This year I’m not sure if we’ll have time to decorate, but that doesn’t mean we can’t get into the spirit of the holiday. Here are five of my favorite songs that bring out my Halloween festive side. To be fair, none of them are really scary. They’re more music to set the mood for fun parties.

Starting with a bit of Shmaltz, we’ll go with a tried and true classic by the Oak Ridge Boys in honor of the original queen of the darkness…. It’s good for young and old alike.

Next is one of my favorite Glee mashups, combining Michael Jackson and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Not only is it still kid friendly, it’s fun, playful and gets everyone dancing…and singing their favorite parts.

Getting a little darker, Warren Zevon pays homage to the werewolf, one of my favorite beasties. It definitely gets a person moving.

Of course, you can’t think Halloween and leave out the Witches…so the next two are for them. I’m a big fan of Joss Stone’s voice, but you combine her with Jeff Beck and you’ve got some serious spells flying….

Of course witch craft has such strong, seductive power that we can’t possibly leave out the very sensual Eagles song…

And now that I’m in a sexy mood…maybe it’s time to pick out a costume. Tameri Etherton, my fabulous blogging buddy who keeps me on her toes, recently suggested that with my dark side, this particular outfit might be ideal…. (She sent the picture to me via Facebook)

Is this outfit me???

Is this outfit me???

Do you have a better costume idea for me? Any favorite Halloween songs that get you in the party mood? I’d love to hear what you guys are thinking!

Sexy Younger Guys–Cougartime!

“Older men are great playmates and younger men are great playthings.”

Once upon a time, before I got married, several of my gal pals used to jokingly call me Demi Moore. Why? Certainly not because we looked alike. The truth is, it was uncanny. If we were out somewhere and there was a hot guy or three between the ages of 18-25, they seemed to gravitate my way. It used to leave me shaking my head and laughing. I won’t lie…it was flattering being asked to judge an impromptu “Hottest Ass” competition when I was over 30. Those guys are lucky I always used my superpowers for the forces of good. 😉

Many of you have already figured out by the above quote (which, incidentally, may be a Kitt original, but I can’t recall with any certainty) that I’m an equal opportunity man lover. In fact, it’s because I love men of all ages that I felt men under 25 deserved equal time. Afterall, I’ve already done a Sexy Older Men post a while back.

These guys are my top 5 faves in no particular order….

Zac Efron (age 25) – There’s something about dark hair and blue eyes that has always done it for me. Add musical talent and I’m weak in the knees. Did I mention he also has tattoos? Yummy! Though I was tempted to include a clip of him singing (High School Musical or Hairspray), I decided on something else.

Then there’s Taylor Lautner (21 years old). With him, I practically feel like I’ve watched him grow up. I’ve even watched his Sharkboy movie. It wasn’t until I saw him all wolfie in the Twilight series that my eyes were opened. Truthfully, though…I enjoy him in action movies. He was completely droolworthy in Abduction. With him, there’s a sense of confidence that I find really appealing…not to mention I don’t really get the egomaniac vibe from him.

Third is one of my Glee guys, Jacob Artist, the 20 year old who plays the younger Puckerman brother (the older one is over 25). Not only can he sing…He can move that body in ways that has me thinking sinful thoughts. He’s got the whole soulful thing down to a science. The below is probably one of my all time favorite vocal music performances by him.

Then there’s Tyler Hoechlin (age 25). The first time I saw him was on 7th Heaven. Little Ruthie had a huge crush. Since then he’s been mostly in movies, but he’s currently back on tv in Teen Wolf. He definitely does well with the darker, animalistic tendencies. There’s something very magnetic about his appeal.

Finally, Alex Pettyfer, 23. Yeah, there are women who will recognize him from Magic Mike, but I actually preferred his moves in I Am Number Four. He’s got a vulnerability to him that blends well with his natural sex appeal.

What stars 25 and under do you find to be attractive and why?

A Little Variety

How can people eat at the same place All. The. Time????

As a whole, human beings are creatures of habit. I know this… Yet I had a mini-meltdown last Friday at the idea of eating at the same place…AGAIN. Hubby and I have a couple of friends that we meet with most Friday evenings for dinner. Back when I was working in a traditional job, I worked non-traditional hours, so I was often working on Friday nights. Fine. Perfect! Hubby would meet up with this other couple and enjoy dinner.

Now that I’m not working in a retail environment, I’m free every Friday evening. Don’t get me wrong…I enjoy getting out. But eating at the same restaurant every. single. time? I couldn’t take it anymore! Seriously.  First, it’s a wing place… Yeah, there are a few other things on the menu, but it’s basic American cuisine of salads and burgers and wings. Blah!

This last weekend, I chose to stay home and relax rather than go out to eat because the thought of going there again drove me bat shit crazy. It wasn’t like I hadn’t voiced my thoughts on the whole thing. In fact, I’d definitely voiced my opinions the week prior to the other couple. Some people can eat the same stuff over and over…. I’m not one of them.

Come to think of it, I think that trait may lend itself to the rest of my life as well. I wonder if I can blame my mom for this… after all, she’s the one who told me when I was younger that I should date as many boys as possible while I was young so that when the “right one” came along, I’d recognize him. Then there was the fact that we moved a lot…Yeah, it’s a hazard of being a military brat…that case of wanderlust that appears from time to time.

Well, I took my mom’s advice… I dated. A lot. And during my teen years, I messed around…a lot, though, oddly enough…I didn’t lose my virginity till I was 20 by choice. Why? Because I just didn’t feel emotionally mature enough to make that call…or deal with the consequences (and I damned sure knew that there was a possibility of all sorts of consequences).

The other reason I waited? I didn’t want regrets. Too many of my friends lost their virginity early simply because they wanted to be cool or because they allowed their boyfriends to pressure them…only to wish they hadn’t done it later. My thought was, I don’t necessarily want to marry the guy I lose my virginity to, but I do want to love him so I won’t be sorry I chose him. It worked for me. No regrets.

However, I also knew I’d want to know what was out there…so I experimented with “everything but”. It was quite the learning period. I had a lot of fun. Truthfully, I think I was 17 when I first experimented with bondage in the form of thumb cuffs…on my 6’1″ boyfriend. I’m 5’3″. It was a ton of fun for both of us. It was also during my teen years that I realized that I had an exhibitionistic streak.

As for the control thing… Well, it’s always sort of been there (some of you are probably thinking to the above cuffs comment and thinking…duh!). Most people who’ve known me well know that I’m not someone who likes to be out of control. It’s why I’ve never tried drugs. It’s also why the only two times I’ve been mildly drunk has been in a gay bar with my best friend where the likelihood of me being a target was not very likely at all.

The things I’ve learned? Variety truly can be the spice of life…for certain people. For others, it instills fear. What about you? Can you eat the same thing over and over again or are you like me? Does it drive you crazy?

While I’m at it…many of you know I’m a huge Gleek…so I’d like to just say…Rest In Peace Cory Monteith. Another talented soul, gone way too young.
