@LoniFlowers Reveals The Best I Never Had

One of the cool things about having author friends is getting to share in their excitement as something new comes out. So, when my friend and fellow author, Loni Flower, reached out to me to ask if I’d share her cover release on her newest book…. I jumped at the chance to lend a hand. That’s one of the coolest parts about the writing community.

So, without further ado, check out this awesome cover for her newest book! I love the colors, the grapes, the hottie on the cover…..

So here’s a bit more about the book:

THE BEST I NEVER HAD (DeVine Winery #1)

New job, new town, new people— new life.

That’s what Olivia Langston needed. At twenty eight, she was given a rare opportunity at an internship in the rolling valleys of Crystal Falls in California wine country, far away from her small town roots in North Carolina. It was an unexpected journey she desperately needed after her ex-husband crushed her.

At DeVine Winery, she expected a fresh start in a new environment to help let go of her past. Instead, she found Daniel Black and a hell of a lot of sexual tension she wasn’t prepared for. He was gorgeous, modestly wealthy, irresistible, and just happened to be part owner of DeVine, one of the largest vineyards in the country.

If only she knew that before she kissed him her first night in town.

Sharing Witness to my Heart by @LoniFlowers #NewRelease

There’s something pretty awesome about the friendships we build online. Loni Flowers is one of those fabulous gifts that writing and blogging has given me. If you’re lucky, you’ve made a friend or two like Loni. She’s always available to share a laugh, enjoy a song, and cheer you on. In fact, she’s such a warm and loving person, there’s nothing you wouldn’t do for her!

So, of course, when she told me she was working on her third book, I stood up and cheered. You wish well for people like her. You want to see them succeed. And when she reached out to me once the book was done and asked me if I’d help pimp her, my answer was easy. An unequivocal HELL YEAH!!! I’m honored to help.

So, without any further ado….Here’s a bit about her awesome new book, slated to release this AUGUST 12th! (BTW, she’s also got a giveaway, so read on to WIN!)

Blurb/Book Description:

Keep a low profile. That’s what Abigale Peterson was supposed to do, especially when the person she was being protected from was one of the world’s worst crime lords. After seven years in the Witness Protection Program, she felt no safer now than she did when she was seventeen. Revenge was rarely forgotten when it came to a professional criminal like Zerilli. Low profiles meant no social life and definitely no love life. Paranoia and lies became daily habits, going against everything Abigale believed in, but they kept her safe. They kept everyone safe. Until a house fire puts her out of that safety and into the arms of a stranger. Max Smith is sexy, smart, and has major attitude. He’s the only one who seems to get her. He calms her fears and comforts her from her nightmares. But he also sees right through her lies. Before Abigale can stop, she’s in too deep; confiding too much and breaking the one rule she promised herself to uphold: Never fall in love.

Excerpt:

I tossed my phone in my bag and relayed the particulars to Max as I returned to the edge of the pond. Rain began to fall heavier, pelting the canopy above us, and creating large rings in the water. A few drops fell on me, but they felt cool on my overheated, sticky skin and I welcomed them.

“Well, we might as well pack it up,” Max said, sounding disappointed. “She’s getting in the car with him now. Plus, I don’t think the rain is going to let up. The clouds are getting darker.”

I turned toward him. “Not just yet. I love listening to it, especially now, when it hits the leaves. The steady rhythm is very peaceful.” Larger drops started to penetrate the branches, but I ignored it, as well as my dress, which was getting wetter by the minute. I leaned my head back, spread my arms out, and twirled in the rain like I always wanted to do. It felt wonderfully cool on my face. I giggled at my silly behavior, but didn’t care how childish I was acting. “I really am going to miss days like this… and places like this.”

“I know you’ve heard me say this before, but you do have a choice, Abi. No one can make you do anything you don’t want to do…. You know, like leave this place?”

I stopped and peered down at him. “I’m sure it seems like a reasonable choice when you’re not the one having to make it or knowing the reasons behind it.”

“Maybe I could understand better if you told me.”

“You probably would, but it’s still not going to happen.” My hair stuck to the sides of my face and my dress became heavier as the wet fabric clung to my skin. Max didn’t seem fazed by the rain anymore than I, and his eyes followed me as I continued to dance around.

He uncrossed his ankles and sat up straighter. “Can I be blunt with you right now?”

I stopped and stepped closer to hear what he was about to say. “When are you not blunt?”

“Would it change your mind if I said I didn’t want you to leave?”

Snatching a leaf from a branch, I pretended to find it more interesting than our conversation. We were heading down a path I didn’t want to travel.

“It would only change how I feel, and make it that much harder to leave, but I’d still have to go.” It was about as close to the truth as I could get. I smirked, peering back at him. “You’re not doing a very good job at being blunt,” I added, stepping closer and wondering where he was going to take this.

“I don’t want to go back to St. Louis. There’s nothing for me there. I’d be more than happy to stay around here and see how things pan out.”

“Bluntness, Max. I thought you wanted to be direct here? I’m still not feeling it. What do you want to say?”

I knelt down on my knees in front of his feet on the edge of the blanket, dangerously closer, and intended to press a few more of those buttons he had under his skin. But I couldn’t tear my eyes away from him when the rainwater dripped off the strands of his hair, rolling down his cheeks and neck. Max’s white shirt stuck to his skin like tape, revealing the black ink of his tattoos as it became transparent. My hair was soaked, and rain droplets fell over my shoulders and down my back as well as from the tips of my hair. The rain increased, pelting the canopy above, and soaking us both to the bone.

“How about if I tell you not to leave. And you tell me exactly what’s going on; and no matter what it is, or how bad it was, I promise to protect you. Is that the kind of bluntness you want to hear?” He licked the rain off his lips.

“You’re not being blunt now; you’re giving orders.”

His sultry grin made his dimple pop and I watched his eyes lazily sweep the length of me. “We’re both drenched and you look incredibly sexy right now. So we better go.”

Yes, I was definitely pushing his buttons. “I’m waiting, Max. Come out with it. Say what you really want to say. Why hold back now?” He stared at me a moment, and his caramel eyes contemplated my words.

“I want you, Abi. Every part of you. The good parts, the ugly parts. All the parts that you’re too scared to share with me. I want it all. From the first moment I laid eyes on you, I’ve wanted you. I may be the craziest person on this planet, but I’d move clear across the country if it meant I could spend some more days with you.” His fingertip traced my jaw. “Is that blunt enough for you?”

Fun, Fantasy, Release…#FourOneNight

Woot! I’m celebrating today, and I hope you’ll join me. My novelette, Four One Night, is up and available for purchase exclusively on Amazon Kindle! Yes, that means I’m celebrating a NEW RELEASE!

Four One Night WEBSITE USE

Some of you may have stopped by Emma Meade or Loni Flowers’ pages when they invited me to share my (then) upcoming release and read an excerpt while you were there. This one’s a little different.

I realized while working on my final edits that I have a huge penchant for including bits and pieces of my favorite things into my stories. Those of you who know me aren’t shocked to hear about the music…. but this time, I mentioned one of my favorite shots…so, I thought I’d share that excerpt and the recipe for the drink.

Excerpt:

Nudging Candace with my elbow, I inclined my head in their direction. “See those two hotties headed our way?”

She nodded. “Are they both for you or is one for me?”

“Well,” I shrugged, barely able to hold back a grin, “If you’re good I may be convinced to share.”

Candace rubbed her hands together in anticipation, “Yum!”

“Drinks are always yummy!” James said as they joined us, extending liqueur glasses with shots of green liquid to each of us. Wrapping one arm around Michael’s neck, I grabbed the tumbler with my free hand and pulled his head down toward my mouth.

His green and gold eyes held mine as his velvet lips brushed mine. “Hi, Bad Girl,” he murmured against my mouth.

Nipping his lower lip between my teeth, I tugged lightly, then released. “You know what they say. When I’m good, I’m good. But when I’m bad, I’m better.”

“A-hem,” the exaggerated clearing of James’ throat had me ducking my head into Michael’s shoulder to hide my amusement. “You’ll have to excuse their rudeness. Obviously when they see each other they forget their manners. I’m James.”

“Thanks for the drink. I’m Candace.” She took the tumbler he handed her, toasting him in acknowledgement. “I’m assuming the guy she’s snuggled up to is the infamous Michael?”

With a sigh, I turned to face our audience. “Yes, this absolutely edible man I’ve been nibbling on is Michael Gallo. Michael, meet the notorious Candace Lawrence.”

Lifting his fingers from their perch on my hip, he offered his hand to Candace. “Finally, a face to go with the name. In fact, why don’t we make that our first toast of the evening?”

Twisting my wrist so the lime green liquid swirled in the glass, I looked at James. My voice raised to be heard over the loud music. “What is this?”

“It’s called an Alien Secretion, Sweetie,” he gestured toward my hand. “It’s yummy and 100 proof and will help you ladies forget about your horrible day. Drink up so we can get to partying!”

“I don’t know, James.” Stepping away from Michael to stand next to Candace, I nudged her shoulder with mine. “The name doesn’t make it sound very appetizing, does it?”

He rolled his eyes. “It’s just a little Midori Melon, pineapple juice, some Malibu and a touch of vodka. Trust me, Dani. You’ll love it!”

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
So what’s the book really about?
Blurb for Four One Night:
Life is all about taking chances. You’ll never know how far you can go unless you try. Well, that’s my philosophy, anyway. My name is Danielle Monroe, but everyone calls me Dani. I’m the kind of girl that doesn’t just pay lip service to living life to the fullest. I reach out and grab it!
After a brutal day at work, unwinding by taking one of my best girl friends to a club for drinks and dancing was just what I needed. It also gave me the opportunity to make a shared fantasy with my boyfriend, Michael, come true. All it took was a quick phone call, a few friends, and the stage was set. Now, if I could just get everyone to take a walk on the Wild Side with me…
There’s no harm in asking, right?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Now, on to that recipe:

Alien Secretion Shots

Alien Secretion Shots

Alien Secretion:

1/4 oz Absolut vodka
1/4 oz Midori melon liqueur
1/4 oz Malibu coconut rum
1/4 oz pineapple juice

Add ingredients together in a shaker with ice. Stir. Strain into a shot glass.

Voila! Tasty alcoholic treat!

So, how will you help me celebrate my milestone today? Share your favorite shot? Buy the book (hint, hint)? Tell a friend? Have a drink?

It’s a party! Don’t leave me dancing by myself….

Flowers and the Wild Side

When my dear friend, author and fellow blogger, Loni Flowers, agreed to beta read my first book, she was a bit surprised. Not so much with my dirty mind, but with my seriously naughty content. I still remember the message she sent me:

“I wasn’t expecting this type of read, but dare I say you’ve got me all hot and bothered and where is my toy when I need it!?!?!”

It was one of the nicest things I’d ever read because I was a bundle of nerves about sharing my work. This validated that I did a pretty good job. But there’s something really special about Loni… She has a way of making you smile. She knows my passion for music. In fact, she shares it. Unlike her (and mostly thanks to my background in vocal music), I can’t listen to music (especially with words) and write at the same time. Somehow I wind up with song lyrics on the page, rather than my story. I have to use my musical inspirations to put me in the mood to write certain stories or scenes. So it was such an awesome surprise when she messaged me on Facebook and said, “Have you heard the Maroon 5 song ‘Doin Dirt’? It makes me think of the club scene in your book.”

I listened to the song and died laughing…. She had a very valid point. Honestly, I’d never heard the song, but I’ve been hooked on it ever since. It’s perfect. But she’s not the kind of woman to stop there. Today she’s sharing me and that same book she read on her fancy, cool blog!

This is my fab friend, Loni Flowers!

This is my fab friend, Loni Flowers!

Thanks to her, I was also able to find the inspiration for Three For All. She actually didn’t even know that, but it all happened on one of those nights where we were sharing music back and forth and I was struggling with painting my opening scene in my head. Here’s the song I stumbled into that night…

Because she’s so wonderful and generous, I thought I’d share her updated cover reveal for her New Adult Romance, Painted Memories.

Painted Memories

This book is all about love, loss and redemption…with plenty of romance thrown in for good measure. You should check it (and Loni) out!

Taking Chances

By Loni Flowers

Genre: Adult Contemporary Romance

Blurb/Book Description:

Turning her back on a life she can no longer deal with, Clair Davidson has been on the streets for six months wandering aimlessly from town to town. But when a hitchhiked car ride lands her back in a familiar town, and a terrifying encounter puts her in the arms of someone too good to be true, Clair almost starts to feel like she could belong somewhere again. Almost.

Alexander Frazier knew what it felt like to live on the streets, up until he received a helping hand from a stranger. After saving Clair from a vicious attack, it’s not long before he realizes she’s a lot like he used to be—lost. Alex soon learns he will risk everything to keep her safe and get her life back on track… even if it means his heart.

But fresh starts are new to Clair and not something she’s certain she’s ready for. Clair’s had her share of people walking out of her life and she doesn’t trust her heart in Alex’s hands. Can his love give her the second chance she never saw coming?

Excerpt

Alex walked around and opened Clair’s door, helping her out as she jumped down. He followed her as she walked to the far end of the yard and sat in the grass. Lying back, she looked up toward the black sky. Alex laughed as he looked down at her.  “You know, if you’re that tired, I can get my blanket out of the car for you.”

Clair gave a small smile, tapping the grass beside her with her hand. “I miss it, ya know?”

“Miss what?” he asked, sitting beside her.

“I don’t know, the quietness, the stars. It’s just different. I know, it sounds stupid… it’s just, I’ve been on my own for so long without anyone caring. It’s a little overwhelming having someone care about me now; especially when they hardly know me. Everything Roz has done, I mean, who even does that?”

Alex watched her. She was so animated when she talked. Her face lit up with expressions, her hands waved through the air as if she needed them to help her communicate.  Everything was light and easy going until dinner was over. Since the drive home, Clair seemed sad, but Alex let her ramble, venting whatever was bottled up inside her.

“And you,” she said, looking over at Alex, “if it weren’t for you, I wouldn’t be here.” Clair sat up, crossing her legs up under her. “And this date—I mean, this hanging out we did tonight. It was the best night I’ve had since I left home. Thank you for that.” She picked blades of grass with her fingers, tearing them into tiny pieces. “You didn’t have to take me out, but you did it anyway.”

His eyes traveled up her arms to her neck. Her skin looked so fair and soft under the moonlight, it made him want to run his hands over it.  “You don’t have to thank me. I wanted to take you out tonight. I’m happy you said yes. It’s been quite some time since I’ve been out on date.” Yes, a date. He didn’t want to just “hang out”; no, he wanted to know everything about her. To hold her hand, touch her skin, and taste her lips. But would she want the same things as he? He still didn’t know.

“Oh, and this,” she said, holding the charm out from around her neck, “you shouldn’t have bought me this. But I do love it. Thank you.”

Alex leaned forward, taking the charm between his fingers. “I’m glad I saw you looking at it. It looks perfect on you.” He laid the charm down against her chest. Lightly, he traced his fingers up the side of her neck, her hair cupped around her face. Alex stared straight into her eyes, dark under the night’s sky. Her lips parted slightly and Alex could feel her breath quicken on his skin. He wanted nothing more than to feel her lips on his. He slipped his hand further up Clair’s neck and heard her breath catch as if she’d stopped breathing. With his face only inches away from her mouth, he whispered, “If you don’t want me to kiss you right now, you’d better tell me.”

It’s An Honor Just To Be Nominated….Thanks, Ella!

Hey Ya’ll! Back in December the wonderful Ella Medler awarded me with the Liebster Award. I promised her that when things slowed down and I had a moment (and got through the Blog Of The Year awards) I would accept the award and answer her questions.

liebster-award

Well, things have finally eased up…and being a woman of my word, I have finally had time to go back and participate. So here are the rules:

1. Thank the person who nominated you.

2. Post eleven random facts about yourself.

3. You answer the eleven questions asked by the person who nominated you.

4. You think of a new set of eleven questions and nominate eleven others to answer them.

Thank you again, Ella, for thinking of me…It is my absolute honor to accept your nomination!

So…without further ado, here are 11 random facts about yours truly:

1. My parents told me that I used to speak German pretty fluently back when we lived there…and that I was my father’s translator when he needed to speak to the landlord. (I’ve since lost all but the most common words)

2. I hate running, yet I’ve allowed my friend and editor to talk me into doing Disney’s Food and Wine half marathon run in the future, so I’m training & doing my first 5K in February.

3. It took me 3 months to become fluent in Tagalog & 6 months to be fluent in Kapangpangan…a local dialect in the Philippines.

4. The first time I became tongue tied in front of a celebrity was when I met Terry Bradshaw. I’m still kicking myself because I had to have come off as the biggest “girlie girl”. Although I know about his Hall Of Fame Career with the Pittsburgh Steelers…what did I say to him? “I really LOVE watching you and Howie on TV.” He was classy about it…didn’t even laugh. In fact, he put his arm around me and thanked me, saying he wished they had more fans like me.

5. You know all those videos people watch of other people falling or tripping or other such things…and laughing? I could have probably starred in a couple of them. Yes, although I can be graceful…when I fall…It’s always in a BIG way…and more often than not, with an audience.

6. I got a chance to play with dolphins this last year.  It was a blast!

Kissing Dolphin

7. I have a soft spot for accents…3 in particular…Australian, Southern and Hispanic…(something about endearments spoken in Spanish or with a southern drawl that makes me go all melty inside… and Aussies can make anything sound hot!)

8. I have 2 Shiba Inu dogs…My mom thinks the reason they’re so smart is because they’re Asian…LOL! (Not just a little ethnocentric, right?)

Doggies

9. I have actually been “motor boated” by a drag queen…it was my bachelorette party.

10. I would rather get muddy playing tackle football than going to a spa for a mud bath.

11. I’m a HUGE Dallas Cowboy fan…and I HAVE met a whole bunch of their players…past and present. Most famous one I’ve shaken hands with? #22-Emmitt Smith at his Hall Of Fame induction celebration.

Ella’s 11 Questions:

1. What did you last have for dinner?

Don’t remember what I had last night, but hubby is currently making filet mignon with a portabella/wine topping, cheesy tomato tartlet & a cheesy broccoli bake (yes…he loves cheese) for dinner tonight as I’m typing this.

2. If money were no object, would you fly to the moon?

Hmmm… I might, just to say I’ve done it…though I don’t really have a huge desire to go there. (It seems kind of boring, and not sure that no gravity would be all that fun)

3. What was your bravest act in the last 12 months?

Deciding not to file for unemployment (because that would require looking for a job) and focusing on writing my first book. Following my true passion.

4. I don’t expect you to remember the title or author, but what was the plot of the worst book you ever read?

It was some sort of erotica…one of those no happy ending ones (though I wasn’t aware of it at the time). What was the plot? There really WASN’T one…just fighting, sex and death. Waste of my time.

5. What is the sport you wish you mastered to perfection?

There really isn’t one… I love all sorts of sports, but if I mastered any of them to perfection, I think I might lose interest. I enjoy learning and growing constantly.

6. Where would you go to spend your last day on Earth?

For me, it wouldn’t be a where so much as with whom…and the answer would be…with my loved ones. (Hubby, dogs, family)

7. What is the most romantic gesture you ever came up with for your loved one?

It’s a toss up between writing a poem for my love or singing to him…

8. If possible, in what century would you rather have lived? Or is this one just fine for you?

Although I’m perfectly happy in the century I’m in, I’d have loved to have been around (maybe as a lady in waiting) with Eleanor of Aquitaine during Henry II’s reign or back in Ancient Greece or Rome… I also think it might have been cool to be around for Alexander the Great…or follow Jesus around. (I LOVE History!)

9. If you had the chance, what new genre would you like to introduce? Describe it, please.

I don’t know that there would be a new genre I’d introduce… I rather like the ones we have right now.

10. What gadget couldn’t you live without and why?

Phone-I enjoy interaction…I talk, I email, I social network…getting rid of it would be like cutting off a limb.

11. What is the most infuriating thing about today’s world, in your view?

How hateful and cruel people can be to one another…without even thinking or considering or caring.

My 11 Questions for my nominees:

1. If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be and why?

2. What did you want to be when you grew up?

3. If you could be any animal, what would you be and why?

4. What one movie can you watch over and over again and never get sick of?

5. What talent do you wish you had and why?

6. If you had to pick one famous person of the same sex to have a man or girl crush on, who would it be and why?

7. When you think of historical figures, who do you most admire and why?

8. If you could be a professional athlete, what would be the sport you’d like to be a pro at?

9. What was the coolest thing you have ever done for someone else?

10. What are you most afraid of and why?

11. What do you consider your greatest accomplishment to date and why?

And my nominees are:

Phil– Funny, a bit sarcastic…and pretty cool…for a New Yorker. He’s a new friend with a passion for Speakeasies, watching living, breathing train wrecks and fitness.

Susie– She’s a woman who grabs life by the horns and dances…whether people are watching or not. Even Thor loves this woman!

Austin– My favorite Modern Day Philosopher who has quite the knack for putting a whimsical twist on current events while still making you think. (but isn’t that what Philosophy is all about?)

Rob– He’s blunt, a bit warped (he’s even got a “fan chick stalker diary” and “zombie diary” going on), funny…and very few things are out of bounds with him. It may also explain why he actually had to post a clarification blog for his new followers! He’s also featured a bunch of guest bloggers (including yours truly).

Loni– A wonderful, supportive new friend and author. She always finds time to stop by and give a kind word. Things like that mean so much.

Wordsurfer– A sweet lady who is a lot more courageous than she gives herself credit for. She’s always got a keen observation or a thoughtful comment. I’ve been enjoying getting to know her.

Jen– An empty nester who thinks she’s a “beginner” at poetry…but so far from that. She’s fun, and thoughtful…and full of insight. (Plus, she’s got that awesome Aussie thing going on for her…I’m jealous of her accent and I haven’t even heard her speak.)

CrazyTrainToTinkyTown– Yes, she really is a bit crazy…but in the best possible way! She makes me laugh. Her comments are quirky and full of fun, just like her!

LJ– A wonderfully talented writer friend who has this work in progress that has me completely intrigued. She’s a riot and my sister of the dirty mind. She’s also amazing in the way she supports her friends.

Ray– A new friend I met through Susie, he’s honest and insightful. In a very short time I’ve come to appreciate his reflective nature and his willingness to share.

Jessi– She just released a new book about a sexy Scottish Highlander…Yum! She’s a fun friend who is entertained by the fact that I’m a bit off the wall and you never know exactly what to expect when you stop by and visit me. She also understands that a love of erotic romance (both reading and writing) does not negate my love of God or my faith.

Seriously…you guys need to check these folks out…and if you’re not following them yet, why the heck not? Can’t wait to see what kind of answers they’ll have for my questions.  Hope you guys are entertained by the random facts about me and my answers to the awesome Ella’s questions…

But in the meantime…What does Liebster even mean? Anyone know?
